Syfte och mål

The purpose of this project was to prototype a wireless card reader device based on green supercap technology for possible replacement of current devices based on Li-ion batteries. Such supercaps contain carbon, which can be derived from renewable biomass, and water-based electrolyte, thus, being sustainable and recyclable. The developed prototype can be charged within a minute and it has an operational time sufficient for most working situations. It has been positively evaluated by end-users, who provided feedback useful for future development.

Resultat och förväntade effekter

The expected outcome of this project was to have the technical and market validation of our idea to develop consumer electronic products based on supercaps. As a result we were able to design and produce a prototype, collect users’ feedback and communicate with a number of electronics manufacturers and payment system suppliers. Based on the gained experience we, to a large extent, re-evaluated our go-to-market approaches, strategies regarding product development, production and distribution. In summary, the project was extremely useful for the development of our startup.

Upplägg och genomförande

The project objectives as well as the planned activities were fulfilled. Market feedback was gathered and important contacts with possible customers and manufactures were established. Some bottlenecks of our current strategies were identified and most promising directions of our further development as a start-up were evaluated. On the technical side, the energy density of our storage cells needs further improvement and we determined the steps towards this goal. On the business side, we identified our partnership needs in product development, manufacturing and distribution.
