Syfte och mål

The goal of this project is to improve cost- and energy efficiency of 5G wireless communication transmitters through investigation of novel integrated active antenna concepts. This project idea is based on the innovative IADAT = Integrated Active Doherty Antenna Transmitter concept that has been proposed, numerically tested, and the patent application for it has been filed during the INITIATE pre-study project.

Förväntade effekter och resultat

To reach this goal, four objectives have been defined as described below: Objective 1: Understand antenna-PA integration fundamentals: Objective 2: Establish a multi-disciplinary design flow for deep integration active antennas: Objective 3: Identify suitable packaging and filtering solutions for Doherty architectures Objective 4: Experimental demonstration of the IADAT concept

The project is divided into five work packages. WP1: Project leadership WP2: Antenna-PA integration fundamentals 2.1: Fundamental antenna-PA integration limits (Chalmers, Ericsson) 2.2.: Fundamental limits of integrated active antennas in arrays (Chalmers, Ericsson, Gapwaves) WP3: A multi-disciplinary design flow 3.1: A numerical platform for combined simulations (Chalmers, Ericsson) 3.2: Antenna element design (Chalmers, Ericsson, Gapwaves) WP4: Packaging and filtering (Gapwaves, Ericsson, Chalmers) WP5: Experimental testbed (Ericsson, Gapwaves, Chalmers)
