Graphene Coatings for High-End textiles

Syfte och mål

The goal of the project was to explore the possibilities of developing a graphene coating for textile to target surface and interfacial properties. Two different methods to apply a graphene oxide-based coating on textile were tested and a few avenues to reduce the graphene oxide were explored. We produced a range of coatings with different graphene oxide concentration and tested the affect of these parameters on a number of properties.

Resultat och förväntade effekter

The project was aiming at identifying the most realistic ways of introducing graphene onto textile in order to reach the desired properties. We were able to see how the presence of a graphene-based coating can influence a number of properties, such as conductivity. The presence of the graphene coating however did not affect other properties, for example abrasion resistance. The patent search identified a number of applications where patenting would be possible.

Upplägg och genomförande

The idea behind the project was to identify the most promising tracks to further develop in project of bigger ambition, and therefore had a very exploratory nature. Regular meetings where at least one representant of each of the three partners was present enabled the business analysis, patent search and practical parts to align to each other to produce the best possible result.
