Viktiga resultat som projektet gav
Abating the pressures on Earth requires stewardship that expresses a common human vision for the planet. Urban regions have an increasingly important role to play. The workshop ultimatly demonstrated: 1- the importance of planetary stewardship, in a cross-scalar, polycentric context that is mindful of the interconnections of resource chains and diverse actors; 2- In recognition of profound connections with the rest of the planet, urban responsibility is a necessary condition for planetary and human health.
Långsiktiga effekter som förväntas
The draft paper being finalized (see bilaga nr 5) will be submitted to Nature (preliminary contacts are already established), Science and PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA)
Upplägg och genomförande
The workshop played a key role: 1- in the preparatory process leading to the Rio+ 20 summit particularly regarding a regular global sustainability assessment and appointing a chief scientist advisor the the UN (an IGBP suggestion) ; 2- to conceptual themes and sessions of the Planet under Pressure Conference (http://www.planetunderpressure2012.net) and particularly to one of its main sessions (http://www.planetunderpressure2012.net/pup_session.asp?19096) 3- The workshop strongly contributes to the ongoing IGBP´s second synthesis.
