Viktiga resultat som projektet gav
Budget impact model for the selection of iNPH patients for shunt surgery and post-surgery optimization of shunt malfunctioning using CELDA System. The objective of this study was to develop an economic model to assess the budget impact of referring patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) for shunt surgery and post-surgery shunt optimization using CELDA System (designed and commercialized by Likvor AB) compared to conventional methods (tap test and external lumbar drainage).
Långsiktiga effekter som förväntas
An model is developed and can be used by Likvor with new users to understand the impact of the usage of the CELDA System compared to existing methods. The CELDA System can select candidates more carefully, compared to conventional methods, leading to a smaller proportion of patients, to whom a primary shunting operation or shunt adjustment/revision is erroneously administrated, and in turn cause a reduction of a financial burden from the hospital perspective. Also less patient suffering is expected. The tool can provide better decision material for start using the CELDA System.
Upplägg och genomförande
Initial literature was provided in the research area to the chosen consultant. Important disease pathways were described and verified by experts in the field. Based on the pathways a model was developed to assess the budget impact of referring patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) for shunt surgery and post-surgery shunt optimization using CELDA System compared to conventional methods (tap test and external lumbar drainage).
