Viktiga resultat som projektet gav
We developed a coating that can be easily applied to various common surfaces that provides a long lasting protection by reducing viral infectivity. We evaluated different coating formulation and identified one which is fast and easy to apply and doesn´t get damaged by mechanical and human abrasion. We are in discussions with potential commercial partners to exploit the project results to allow quick availability of these results to the society.
Långsiktiga effekter som förväntas
Results: Long-lasting disinfection of frequently used public surfaces with a self-sanitizing coating that can be re-applied periodically. Impact: Make the society resilient from the present and future pandemics and allow people to carry on with daily life and livelihood with confidence. The public transport service providers and organizations responsible for maintaining public spaces needs to convince the public that it is safe to use their facilities, by adopting and evaluating new routines for cleaning and general disinfection in response to novel threats such as COVID-19.
Upplägg och genomförande
Evaluated over 50 different coatings in terms of mechanical resistance, chemical analysis and viral infectivity reduction with SARS-CoV-2. We also studied the effects of abrasive effects of human fingers with 11 volunteers. We identified one coating formulation that suprisingly fulfilled all the important criteria. We are now discussing with commercial partners to take up the results and bring this solution to the market.
