EUREKA Inter-Cluster joint call on international innovation projects within AI

To promote international cooperation in research, development and innovation, applicants can in this call for proposals apply for financing for industry driven and market oriented cluster projects with a focus on artificial intelligence.

Cluster projects mean international cooperation between large and small companies, academia and research institutes to strengthen European competitiveness. EUREKA clusters are strategic and thematic initiatives initiated by European industry.

So far, 15 countries have committed to this call for proposals. In addition to European countries Canada and South Korea are also participating. This effort is a unique opportunity for Swedish industry and academia to advance their positions and create common opportunities within artificial intelligence.

Participating EUREKA clusters are ITEA3, CELTIC-NEXT, Eurogia 2020, Penta and Euripides2. You can read more about the clusters and examples of their existing funded projects on their respective websites.

The projects

We encourage applicants to collaborate across sectors, such as across different technology areas and the EUREKA clusters’ traditional focus areas.

Cluster projects usually have between 4 to 20 project participants and the total international budget usually ranges between 2 to 20 M€. Actors from at least 2 different countries need to cooperate. It is expected that many project budgets in this call will range between 3 to 6 M€.

Take the opportunity to already now sketch on projects and network with possible partners. All participating clusters will initiate different types of activities to ease and support the formation of consortia. They can be contacted directly.

You can apply for funding to develop technology, products and services for an international market, to solve an industrial challenge or to develop new standards or standardization processes, with a focus on artificial intelligence.

The call opens on 1 April and closes on 15 June. Projects can start from December 2020.

International application

The application will be performed in one step via https://eureka-clusters-ai.eu/ and with one application template that is common for all clusters. One step means that applicants does not first submit a Project Outline for assessment, which is the usual process for EUREKA Clusters. Instead, the full application is submitted directly, for an assessment on central and national level.

National application

Anyone who intends to submit an international application must also contact Vinnova early in the process to obtain information on our criteria and national application. A shorter national application must be submitted directly to Vinnova on latest 15 June in parallel with the international application.

You make your national proposal no later than June 15 via a special link sent to you. Tell us your interest in submitting a national proposal well in advance so that we can give you access to the application link. Our contact information can be found below. Email us all when you make this request.

Vinnova will apply the same rules as for the other EUREKA cluster calls. Please note that the process described in the below document is replaced by the above mentioned one step process.
