Purpose and goal

The aim has been to develop a solution that helps preschools to achieve the goals in current and upcoming curricula in regards to children´s participation in the documentation and development of digital skills. The project has successfully developed a first version of a documentation tool adapted for children and staff in a preschool environment.

Expected results and effects

The result is a mobile app for small children to be able to document, record videos and take photographs at the preschool. A special administrative interface has been added in the existing app Prion for preschool staff, from where teachers can control the kids app and use the content in their teaching. The solution is adapted to pre-school´s practical environment and provides a means for preschools to achieve the goals in the curriculum. It will contribute to enhancing children´s participation in the documentation and help them develop skills regarding digital tools and digital media.

Planned approach and implementation

We conducted interviews with preschool teachers across Sweden over telephone and through physical meetings where possible. It gave us a start to be able to design and build the basic functions of the app. When we had the base in place, the next step was to determine what additional features the app would contain. For that we gathered more feedback from both existing and new testers. The interactive process with the testers was incredibly valuable in order to balance between more features, simplicity for the children and what features should be in the kid’s versus the preschool staff´s app.
