Purpose and goal

The FFI-project ”Wireless Communication in Automotive Environment (WCAE)” has met the objectives set at the start of the project. The project´s objectives have addressed the overall FFI targets from a base technology perspective. Through research, new knowledge has been acquired within C-ITS and various wireless technologies that maintain the Swedish automotive competitiveness. The WCAE project constitutes a contribution to this.

Expected results and effects

The six projectpartners (Volvo Cars, Volvo AB, Actia, Kapsch, Lund Universitet och SP/RISE) has gained deeper knowledge on ETSI ITS-G5 and new wireless technologies. The project has developed requirement and verificationspecifications, simulationmodels for antennas and has developed two C-ITS prototypes. The result now gives the OEMs a better understanding of how to integrate a C-V2X solution into vehicles. The development of Multipath Propogation Simulator (MPS) for large test objects has been one of the projects main contribution to the research community.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was structured in the following work packages (WP): WP 0: Project Management (VCC) WP 1: Requirements and design verification methods (VCC, SP-RISE, LU) WP 2: System Design(VOLVO AB, KAPSCH, ACTIA) WP 3: Dissemination and demonstration (VOLVO AB, LU) The above structure is broken down into additional work packages as defined in the final report. Project Management was based on monthly reports and meetings in the project team, steering group meetings, workshops and project seminars. This approach and realization worked very well in the project.
