Turbine Structure Aerodynamic and Heat Transfer Validation

Reference number
Coordinator GKN AEROSPACE SWEDEN AB - Volvo Aero Aktiebolag
Funding from Vinnova SEK 2 000 000
Project duration July 2009 - September 2012
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Build technology, competence and trust in aerodynamics and heat transfer in components that are a part Volvo Aeros specialization - turbine outler guide vanes and turbine ducts.

Results and expected effects

Validation data for turning vanes in turbine ducts. This is an important part in Volvo Aeros validation pland for this component. Heat transfer data and aerodynamic measurements for turbine outlet guide vanes. This data will be used to develop and validate analysis methods.

Approach and implementation

A senior researcher at Chalmers University of Technology will perform detailed measurements in the new turbine duct with turning vanes recently installed in the test rig at Chalmers within the previous NFFP4 project. Thereafter the work will continue in the outlet guide vane rig where researches from Lunds University, who have a long experience in heat transfer, will perform complementary measurements in the test rig at Chalmers.
