Training elevator technicians with the help of virtual reality (VR)

Purpose and goal

The objective and purpose of the project is to assist the elevator industry with increased quality, and thus safety, in the training of untested and experienced elevator technicians through an e-learning program based on virtual reality (VR).

Expected results and effects

The project has led to the development of a prototype VR-application - a virtual environment with design and functionality - over an elevator shaft where the initial phases of a service are performed in a step-by-step process. The prototype VR-application creates the foundation for further development towards commercializable VR-application for the elevator industry.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was made possible by a project group with expertise in training of elevator technicians and the development of VR technology. The prototype VR-application has been presented to people studying to become elevator technicians as well as professionals, followed by very positive feedback. Further presentation of the prototype for the elevator industry will take place shortly.
