Important results from the project

The project has investigated the conditions for a test bed in collaboration between the defense sector and RISE, together with other important actors such as municipal rescue services. The test bed intends to create the conditions for identifying, verifying and validating methods for remediation of the old contaminations (HERITAGE) and for testing and evaluating the future replacement foams and/or methods for PFAS-free fire extinguishing (FUTURE). After the preparation project, the conditions for realizing the test bed look very promising.

Expected long term effects

The result of the project has been that through an independent party, problem owners and testers have collaborated on which problems exist with remediation methods of PFAS contaminations and development of alternatives to PFAS-containing fire extinguishing foam, and how these problems can be solved. An initial draft of an application for an implementation project within Vinnova´s test bed program has been developed. Expected effects of the project are that an application for an implementation project can be sent to Vinnova´s test bed program and that the test bed can be realized.

Approach and implementation

The project has been carried out with regular project meetings, mapping of the needs of the problem owners and an inventory of the testers´ methods. External analysis has been carried out through literature studies of scientific literature and by gathering information at meetings/conferences, both in Sweden and internationally. An stepwise evaluation chain has been developed for the inheritance part, because the methods are suitable for different scales. Preliminary evaluation criteria have been developed for both the inheritance part and the future part of the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
