System design for heart evaluation

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to accelerate the development of a completely new technology that enables function evaluation of donated hearts. This evaluation takes place after the heart has been excised, and before a potentially completed transplantation. Clinical access to the technology is expected to reduce the currently high percentage of donated hearts that do not proceed to complete transplantation due to uncertainty regarding function, which is also the overall objective of the project.

Expected results and effects

The funding from Vinnova´s Medtech4Healh program gives us the opportunity to, in collaboration with a technical expert, accelerate the development of the medical technology in which the donor heart is evaluated. The result is that the time to clinical introduction is reduced and we expect to have developed a medical device suitable for an initial human study during the duration of the project.

Planned approach and implementation

The external expert will work as an integral member of our R&D team with the common goal of refining the technology that we have already developed, and adapting it to the eligibility requirements placed on it in connection with the clinical study.
