Purpose and goal

The objective of this project was to establish a strategic knowledge platform with the purpose of assembling and expanding knowledge about the role of global companies in the Swedish innovation system. The platform has also served to understand better the integration of the Swedish innovation system itself into global innovation networks. The activities of this project aimed to provide an accurate picture of the presence of multinational companies in Sweden and to analyze the channels through which they can contribute to the development of the innovative capacity of the economy.

Expected results and effects

The work packages of the project have analyzed under different perspectives the role of multinational companies in the development of innovative capacities of the Swedish economy. Besides providing new empirical analyses about the direct and indirect effects of MNEs in Sweden the project has also created new datasets on the activities of multinational groups (such as the CVM dataset) which provided brand new evidence on international groups with relevant operations in Sweden.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been implemented by the researchers involved through the use of both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, with a particular focus on the use of large datasets including innovation activities of large global business groups.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
