Streamlining processes and material flows in infrastructure projects - a testbed within Västlänken.
|Coordinator||Volvo Construction Equipment AB|
|Funding from Vinnova||SEK 1 400 000|
|Project duration||December 2016 - December 2019|
|Venture||The strategic innovation programme InfraSweden2030|
Purpose and goal
With electrification, autonomous vehicles and digitization the construction industry is entering a transformative period. Proven technologies and business models will be challenged and it is of great strategic importance to be in the forefront and find roles in this new landscape. Important shifts in technology bring risks and opportunities. The Västlänken project will generate a lot of transports. Ordering authorities wish to minimize the negative impact in the form of emissions, noise and required transport capacity. The project aims to find solutions for these challanges.
Expected results and effects
The project will identify transport flows and processes to find areas where new technology can be used. The project will also study and make recommendations regarding specific choices of technologies and solutions. Finally, the business aspects will be studied. The roles of various actors need to be identified in terms of responsibility, value streams and incentives so that a common sound business model can be created.
Planned approach and implementation
Process Mapping: Mapping of flows and activities, resource utilization, measurability. Monitoring performance at the end of the project to verify the parts that have already been set in production. Study of technical challenges: A number of technical challenges need to be addressed, such as electrification of the digging unit, high capacity transports for long distance transport of materials. The study of business models: The roles of various actors need to be identified in terms of responsibility, value streams and incentives so a common sound business model can be created.
