Venture Challenge-driven innovation - Phase 2 Collaboration

Purpose and goal

The final goal of the project can be expressed as providing a complete investment basis for a typical plant for recirculating production of vegetables and fish. The goal has changed during the project period, due to changes in business conditions beyond the project´s control. The new goal has meant that the project has managed to maintain its innovation potency, and to secure or improve the value of the outcome in relation to the final effect targets. The outcome of the project provides both significantly improved production processes and new investment attractiveness.

Expected results and effects

Despite substantial change during the project, the long-term effect targets remain the same, to pave the way for a rollout of similar projects nationally. Deprived of an opportunity to operationalise design in Bjuv, due to the lack of a waste heat source, the project has focused on packaging the knowledge gained for investors. The design, calculation and contract templates are designed to allow for local adjustments and are judged to cut time and costs for the design and development phase of future projects by up to 75%.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was carried through on the strength of the concept, the professionalism of the participants and the energy of the management. For future projects, a more developed work breakdown structure and a project plan delineating responsibilities and scheduling are recommended as well as instruments and incentives for monthly progress and reports. Managing collaboration between many parties whose representatives had other primary work duties was challenging; a common IT-structure for planning, reporting, scheduling and document control is highly desirable.
