Important results from the project

The aim was to plan for a VINNMER project in order to improve the skills of Fredrik and the two institutions regarding the understanding on how to achieve a sustainable energy system, what role Sweden can play and how the Swedish economy may be affected by developments in the global energy field. Although the planned project is not possible to achieve in the nearest future valuable contacts have been made with both the IEA and other institutions that will lead to other continuing projects in the field, improving Fredrik skills.

Expected long term effects

The planning grant have contributed to the very good cooperation between IEA and IVL regarding energy efficiency measures in buildings and district heating. Discussions have been held about the continuation of the project with the responsible modelers at the IEA and those have been positive to go ahead with a project. The planned project on the IEA will not be possible to realize in the nearest future. The collaboration with the IEA and Fredrik within energy systems analyses will however continue despite. Thanks to contacts made at the IEA another EU-project proposal is planned.

Approach and implementation

Fredrik has worked at the IEA during 4 months. The work has been about improving IEA models for buildings energy demand with a focus on energy efficiency measures. Fredrik has also got a better understanding for the district heating and cooling systems regarding their marginal costs and greenhouse gas emissions, and were in the urban heating system investments provide the most benefit for the climate. Fredrik have identified further improvement of the model by integrating measures for buildings with energy models on the IEA.
