Optimal Control for Aeronautical Applications

Reference number
Coordinator SAAB Aktiebolag - SAAB AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 3 540 000
Project duration August 2013 - September 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to investigate optimal control methods to systematically handle operating constraints in the design of aircraft control systems. The project´s goal has been to look at the function, analysis and implementation of control methods to get a "proof of concept" that these methods work in the aviation industry. The project´s research findings were implemented and demonstrated in Saab´s development simulator for JAS 39 Gripen aircraft.

Expected results and effects

The main results and expectations of the project were achieved by the fact that the project´s doctoral student defended his dissertation and that the industry managed to demonstrate good results in its demonstration.

Planned approach and implementation

The project had a slow start, and it took a while before the research was moving well. The reason for this is most likely to find that the project was not sufficiently concrete from the start. A good prestudy conducted at the industry as a basis for the project would have been preferable.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
