Important results from the project
The main purpose of the project has been to develop business and new services. The project has delivered an integration platform for real-time guidance and follow-up of vehicles using telematic data from the involved vehicles. In this case there were three vehicle brands involved with three different interfaces. Based on this platform, new services and business ideas were evaluated.
Expected long term effects
The project has shown that it is possible to integrate telematics data from different vehicle brands both light and heavy vehicles thru open or semi-open platforms. Data from these vehicles is technically easy to extract. Concerning goods data and the possibility to integrate this with the vehicle data it is more challenging. Technically speaking it is possible but there are some legal and political obstacles still to be resolved since the ownership of goods data is sensible.
Approach and implementation
The project started in September 2011. Three vehicles from three different OEM:s were connected to the virtual haulier company. Two of these vehicles (Scania and VW) were owned by IB Transport. The third vehicle (Volvo) was owned by DHL Express. The haulier system was built up by Optidev and this system displayed the vehicles in real-time. From the system it was possible to extract data such as vehicle position, fuel consumption, handling and a number of environmental parameters. Furthermore, it was possible to retrieve data about the commission, the goods and the vehicle identity.
