Important results from the project

The goal was for MR-piloterna, the district of Lundby, Gothenburg Univ., children and game designers to create a prototype (based on children´s ideas) for a game about human rights and children´s right to participate, which will also become an educational material. The goal was achieved. The purpose is to encourage children to explore, with a norm critical perspective, human rights areas in their vicinity, find areas in need of improvement and communicate solutions to dutybearers. The purpose may be fully achieved only when the game is completed, but has been achieved as far as possible.

Expected long term effects

The expected effects, that the participants would gain knowledge about human rights and how these rights may help create participation, challenge norms etc, were achieved. These effects are expected to increase when the game is completed. New structures for children´s participation are expected to be established, through which children may contribute with solutions to societal challenges. The expected result of the pre-study, a prototype for a game/educational material about human rights, was also achieved. In the longer term, the expected result is a completed game.

Approach and implementation

The pre-study was carried out as planned. A number of meetings were held between the project partners, and three playshops were carried out in order to collect children´s ideas for the game. Also, in addition to the pre-study´s planned activities, a game jam was arranged during which children created worlds, characters, stories etc. for the game. They used analogue techniques (clay, lego etc.) as well as digital tools (such as Scratch and Unity). Game designers were there to help and guide them. The ideas that have come up throughout the pre-study have resulted in a prototype for the game.
