Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Purpose and goal

The goal is to create a completely new model for healthcare that enables early and supportive efforts for the best possible outcomes after care and treatment for young adults with cancer. The project has focused on: 1. solutions that address the needs of young people in an appealing format. 2. to strengthen young adults´ sense of control and autonomy. Increase knowledge for better compliance during treatment. 3. improved communication for increased understanding and compliance with treatment recommendations / instructions, which improves survival prognosis.

Expected results and effects

Expected benefit is to strengthen the young adult patients´ sense of adherence to treatment, control and autonomy as well as increase their knowledge as well as support them psychosocially. The needs are similar in other diagnostic groups that affect young adults, which makes the solution scalable. In every focus area and solution, we think nationally with the possibility of broad introduction. The project has identified three areas with possible solutions. 1) digital support, 2) processes for improved information, 3) target group customized information.

Planned approach and implementation

Great importance has been given to understand the situation of teenagers and young adults during a period of severe illness. The basis for the work has been not to go to potential solutions too soon, but to understand the target group´s conditions, wishes and needs. Based on several workshops, interviews with healthy / ill teenagers and young adults, we have created an increased understanding of the needs. A survey of already existing solutions has also been gathered as inspiration in a solution bank for possible access when the needs mapping has reached enough depth.
