Methodology for Visual Production Development

Reference number
Coordinator GKN AEROSPACE SWEDEN AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 3 250 000
Project duration November 2013 - September 2017
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project has been to make the development of production systems more efficient and effective. The goal has been to reduce lead-time for the development phase by proposing a working methodology for systematic development of production systems using realistic visualization. With the help of the working methodology, production development projects can get a better basis for discussions and decision-making, both for individual work and within a working group.

Expected results and effects

The result is a working methodology for systematic development of production systems which reduces lead time and risks. With realistic visualizations and structured work, more problems can be discovered and resolved earlier in the development phase, saving both time and money. The applications are broad, but focus has primarily been on layout planning. The expected effects after the end of the project are that companies will apply the working method by making the necessary changes and adjustments to match the project model used by the company.

Planned approach and implementation

The need for a working methodology and available techniques for 3D laser scanning and visualization was outlined as result of previous project (NFFP5), which were used as the basis for the project. The project has conducted two extensive industrial studies where the need for working methodology has developed step by step. The studies have been done in the scope of industrialisation projects at the company and enabled regular muutual learning and experience as part of knowledge transfer.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
