Important results from the project
KomILand has, together with local actors, validated the service hypotheses that were designed in KomILand 1.0 and created and launched the technical platform where the services are available. The follow-up researchers have also conducted both surveys and interviews with residents. Somewhat limited use of the services has also taken place. The pandemic has greatly hindered the mobilization and launch of services and more. This has led to a greater focus on development and design rather than local presence.
Expected long term effects
Surveys show that users´ accessibility increase with the services of KomIand - and this is done sustainably. KomILand set out to create learning about how combined mobility services affect people´s accessibility in rural areas. The pandemic has made it difficult to mobilize for the use of the services. Several of them have also not been possible to offer. Therefore, the real effects on travel are still unknown. The development of the services and the technical platform has been implemented. The project is extended so that the services will be provided in more locations for another 2 years.
Approach and implementation
Learning during the implementation of the project is reported in a white paper and in several scientific articles. Important lessons include: 1. It is difficult to maintain local commitment during long project periods. Short time from mobilization to launch is a key. 2. People have, and use, their own cars. Competing with your own car is at least as difficult in rural areas as in an urban context. 3. It is possible to develop and provide combined mobility services that seamlessly offer users a variety of services also in rural areas.
