Purpose and goal
The aim of the project was to support part of the extensive work for SP Wood Technology to host the 44th Annual Meeting of the International Research Group on Wood Protection with the goal to offer the conference delegates professional arrangements from scientific as well as social point of view and additionally with respect to practicalities such as documentation, meal arrangements and IT. Based on positive feedback from many conference delegates it can be concluded that the conference was a success.
Results and expected effects
The conference was attended by 259 delegates, inc of companions, from 36 countries. The scientific programme contained an impressing 106 oral presentations and 15 posters. They represented the whole wood protection area from wood destroying organisms to test methods, wood preservatives, modified wood, natural durability of different wood species, service life prediction and environmental issues. The social programme included a welcoming reception at the City Hall, a half day excursion to Skansen followed by a boat trip in the inner archipelago and dinner at the Vasa museum.
Approach and implementation
SP Wood Technology, KTH and the IRG Secretariat were active in the Local Organising Committee and responsible for the arrangements. The conference was held 16-20 June and KTH was selected as venue. The welcoming reception took place in the City Hall and was hosted by the City of Stockholm. Tha half day excursion took the delegates to the open air museum Skansen followed by a boat trip and the conference banquet was held at the Vasa museum.
