Purpose and goal

The aim of this BIO-X project was to find a solution that provides support and direct service to patients in order to increase adherence and well-being. The objective was to develop a pill dispenser and IT system that is suitable for the home care segment in Sweden. As a project we have been able to successfully complete the objective and we have initiated our first tests as a follow up from the project. Furthermore, the work done within the Bio-X project has led to interest in our solution from other Nordic countries, thus allowing for further commercialisation of the results from the project.

Expected results and effects

We are pleased with the results and the response we have gotten from all stakeholders. The development, testing and iteration have worked well without any major hick-ups. The final solution has been developed in close contact with testers (healthy volunteers) and an ´expert panel´ aged 90 or above. The solution has been well received and we are able to carry on the project with a number of partners which gives us the opportunity to commercialize the product in both Sweden and the Nordics.

Planned approach and implementation

From the start of the project we had a hypothesis together with a major home care partner. We had three clear phases allowing us to develop the solution and see progress. The most important aspect in this project has been to stay true to the overall goal, ´Improved health outcomes and independence for the elderly through intelligent packaging and personal feedback´, which allowed us to pivot and find the correct partners that were needed as we learnt more in each of the phases.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
