Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration November 2014 - September 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the feasibility study has been to enhance the competitiveness of manufacturers of carbonfiberkomposite and product manufacturers, by incorporating cutting-intelligence in carbon fiber composite, and thus makean already innovative and advanced materials into a platform for innovative service production.During the technical and commercial conditions for further verification and implementation of intelligent carbon fiber composite for selected applications and techniques has been explored.

Results and expected effects

Conclusions from this study is that there is a lot of interest from manufacturers of materials and carboncomposite to provide information about the material health status´ for their customers. But also to reduce the cost of warranty claims. Expected impact of a major commercial breakthrough for materials based IoT applications is that component and product life may increase, reduce waste and reduce business risks for operators selling a service. Or switch to service-based circular business models.

Approach and implementation

During the study, project partners and specialists in sensor technology and materials has examined technical possibilities and user needs based on existing knowledge surrounding carbonfiber composites characteristics and current applications. Hypothetical customer requirements has been tested against potential customers in several application areas.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
