Project duration May 2013 - January 2014

Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Purpose and goal

The purpose of IntegrIT is to develop new services for patient-oriented clinical research that integrates data collection from medical records, case report forms and patients´ self-reporting. The overall objective is to contribute to improving the health and quality of life by facilitating the conduct of clinical patient-oriented research and integrating research into regular healthcare. During the initialisation phase, our goal was to develop a set of requirements for functionality and to analyse and propose solutions to the legal and ethical problem areas.

Results and expected effects

Three key areas were identified as particularly important in clinical research: identifying patients for studies, avoiding duplication of documentation and patient involvement. Therefore, we have chosen to prioritise the development of a search function, CRF templates and a patient interface. We have also appointed an advisory board with key players in KI, SLL and SKL, which will provide support from national and regional processes, which can be crucial for the implementation of the project. Thus, IntegrIT will contribute to good healthcare and a healthy sustainable society.

Approach and implementation

Work has been performed in groups of users and developers from the constellation. A project management team has coordinated the work as well as networking with external players. The Centre for Health Informatics (HIC) has applied its tools for needs analysis in order to systematically develop functional requirements of IntegrIT. Legal and ethical aspects have been analysed in relation to the drafting of specifications together with lawyers at the Stockholm County Council. General meetings were held with the entire constellation about every other month, to inform and share ideas.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
