Purpose and goal
Innovation hub Sundsvall has aimed to introduce a positive culture of change and a systematic approach to strengthen the municipality´s innovation capacity. By coaching, exploring and testing employees´ ideas, the innovation hub offers knowledge and insights, employee empowerment and innovations. The goal has been to enhance innovation maturity and create innovation capabilities in the municipality and together with other organizations in the region.
Expected results and effects
The project has been successful. Goals are met and learning has been above expectations. There is an established innovation hub open to all employees. The hub offers support, tools and processes to create value for the variety of municipality customers. The project has processed 170 cases, 3 innovation programs and resulted in a regional innovation network with 90 members. The project is a part of the regional innovation system. Effects are renewal abilities in individuals and departments and increased innovation maturity.
Planned approach and implementation
One innovation manager and two innovation coaches have focused on creating an open climate for exploring, testing and verifying ideas. Initially, many outreach activities were done, but as innovation hub was established, employees and managers themselves made contact. A great deal of effort has been put into communicating and visualizing via newsletters, films and website etc. to show good examples and highlight employees efforts and success. The innovation program has been an important activity for learning together with partners. Learning by doing has been a recipe for success.
