GreenIoT: An energy-efficient and information-centric IoT for air pollution and traffic monitoring

Reference number
Coordinator Uppsala universitet - Institutionen för informationsteknologi
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration June 2014 - January 2015
Status Completed
Venture Challenge-Driven Innovation – Stage 1 initiation

Purpose and goal

The main overall goals that were set out have been accomplished and can be summarized as follows: - Design of an integrated Green IoT solution using sensors, energy-efficient networking, and IoT for air pollution measurements and traffic monitoring - Technical feasibility study and market analysis of Green IoT technology for information society - Small-scale testing on the sensing and communication components for the Uppsala testbed - Form a broad and deep consortium and develop a project proposal for a collaborative implementation project

Results and expected effects

Results: - Development plan for Green IoT and specification of the Uppsala testbed - Consortium for a collaborative implementation project, including academia, research institute, established industry, SMEs, and the public sector - Drafts of project proposal and collaboration agreement for a phase two project - State of the art description of IoT technology and market potential analysis Expected effects: Contribute to making sensor data available for professional decision making as well as for citizens to make green decisions in their daily life.

Approach and implementation

We have focused our efforts on cooperation-building activities and refining the ideas on Green IoT. We have arranged monthly project meetings and workshops to develop ideas with partners and plan for an upcoming collaborative implementation project. We have identified partners with competence to establish a complete workflow and business chain for a second phase of the project. Green IoT has been developed to an integrated solution including advanced tools and applications to make sensor data available for maintaining a sustainable society and creating commercial market values.
