Green Alkali Activated Cement Board

Reference number
Coordinator Honeycore AB - Honeycore AB, Köpenhamn
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 920 000
Project duration November 2011 - March 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The objective of the parameter study was to test different combinations of raw material mix in order to control raw material costs and environmental impact. The targets have been met in terms of both raw materials and life cycle performance. The objective of determining casting method and then scale up the casting process has been to conduct tests on full scale. Targets have partly been met in terms of curing time. Bending strength reaches and sometimes surpasses market standards. Durability has been good except for occurring efflorescence.

Expected results and effects

Honeycore has identified what is expected of real manufacturing and market players. We have visited and negotiated with potential manufacturers. Honeycore has developed its business concept in terms of patenting and licensing, and expect to expand these activities. It has not yet been possible to obtain any licensee of the project´s patents. If technology transfer will occur it will a result of that the manufacturer has come to the conclusion that it can solve production safety issues.

Planned approach and implementation

There is no critical comment on the implementation of the project. It is confirmed that the product idea is relevant and could live up to the market´s technical requirements. Absence of a manufacturing partner has had both advantages and disadvantages. Benefits have been greater freedom in the implementation of the visionary product idea. A drawback has been that ´soft demand´ of green board products has turned out not to be matched by manufacturers technology demand. Manufacturers focus has been on improving construction productivity and working environment in the manufacturing.
