Important results from the project
We have been successful in the project with its purpose and goal being to develop faster and more efficient methods of analysis for improved risk and quality management in the food chain. Our solutions have the potential to prevent foodborne infections, detect contaminations in early stage, trace contamination to reduce their propagation and monitor different stages in food production. Our analyzes are now ready to be validated, implemented and in some cases also internationalized, which we plan to apply UDI stage 3 project for.
Expected long term effects
Our most prominent results are 1) flow cytometry analysis for water producers to monitor the bacterial profile of incoming and outgoing water as well as to test functionality of the different process stages. The analysis takes only a few minutes to perform. 2) faster analysis of Listeria for use on various foods with test results within the same day as the sample is taken. 3) virus analyzes for both water and berries that are better than current standard methods.
Approach and implementation
The project has been a fruitful collaborative project, depending on the competence of the academic parties, institutes and authority’s knowledge of regulations, standardization and project coordination, food manufacturers´ specifications and user requirements as well as the market knowledge of the analytical industry. In this way we have been able to develop new working methods ready for validation with an industrial need and user-friendliness for the executives.
