Eye movement training for Dyslectics

Reference number
Coordinator RetCorr AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 381 000
Project duration December 2013 - August 2015
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project aimed to provide a better basis for evaluating our method´s impact on children with reading difficulties. The project would also develop a digital prototype of a ´wordchaintest´ and evaluate. We would also evaluate a newly developed eye-tracking-based analysis tool to see if this could be used for the evaluation of training methods. In essence, the objectives are met .

Results and expected effects

The pupils who followed the training plan showed improvements that were more than double that normally expected . The wordchain prototype worked well and was tested on pupils in the second round . The test gave a lot of valuable information for further development. More than half of the students thought that the PC version was similar or better than the paper version. The eye-tracking test worked well using a short text, giving results in line with our other measurements. The project has provided a lot of valuable data both for marketing and for further development

Approach and implementation

The project was run mainly at a Stockholm school entirely focused on pupils with dyslexia and related difficulties. During the first round training was also done with pupils at a regular school in Helsingborg With the larger base and some disturbances during the first round, we can see that if the exercise frequency is too low ( 1-3 times per week ) so absent or reduces the impact significantly. For training in a school environment, we need a much more rigid monitoring system to ensure the effect. The tests with the new methods gave a lot, but for frequent measurements, much work remains .

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
