Purpose and goal

SP/RISE is a National Metrology Institute, a signatory of a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) in international metrology and for Swedish membership to the European Association of National Metrology Institutes, EURAMET. With the support of the European Commission, EURAMET administrated an Article 185 program 2009-2017 with the aim to coordinate research activities in European metrology. The seven years long research program is called European Metrology Research Program, EMRP and its total extent is 400 M€ (for Sweden 5.4 M€) where approximately half is funded by the EU.

Expected results and effects

The total extent of the European Metrology Research Program EMRP is 400 M€ (for Sweden 5.4 M€), where on the order of half the funds come from the EU. Through this special Article 185 program Swedish national metrology is provides opportunities to participate in the cooperation program in areas of great importance for the development of technology in research, industry and society. Through the program SP has been very successful and participated in 24 projects.

Planned approach and implementation

The European Metrology Research Programme EMRP was coordinated by a special organization under the Regional Metrological Organization, EURAMET. Through the membership in EURAMET SP/RISE was allowed to participate also in EMRP´s Research Council and the EMRP program. Thus Swedish metrology have had the opportunity to participate in a total of 14 calls in 7 areas carried out from 2009 to 2014. EMRP ended in 2017.
