Purpose and goal
We have been able to demonstrate an infrastructure of carbon dioxide monitors and digital services that offer close to real-time information, based on cost-effective, wireless, autonomous high-precision sensors. Now that continuous, reliable data of the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere is available, we are one step closer to being able to implement, and in an effective way maintain, regulations for GHG emissions. We have also shown the possibility to set up similar networks in more locations.
Expected results and effects
CO2.global has involved automated carbon dioxide monitoring with the help of many interconnected sensors. We have gotten a large number of low-cost sensors into the field in several separate networks, which are also complemented by high-precision units. Data is continuously reported via LPWAN and is accessible via a web interface. With gained knowledge, we have shown that it is possible to track overall air quality, monitor daily variations caused by e.g. traffic, and identify faulty units.
Planned approach and implementation
We have completed the design of the sensor measurement core to attain a functional and manufacturable product. The measurement core was integrated with the surrounding system (casing, temperature control, humidity- and gas pressure measurements), and a prototype tested and delivered. Analysis of possibilities and difficulties regarding upscale of production was performed. Integration towards the communication electronics has been developed and field tests for the previous generation of measurement core are completed, and differences between the generations are mapped out.
