Purpose and goal

By developing a test bed and opening up our business, we want to contribute to the waste industry taking the big step into the digital transformation, which we are convinced will provide opportunities to drastically improve waste collection processes to achieve ecological, social and economic sustainability. The overall objective and purpose of this pilot study is to produce a well-worked basis and a complete project specification to be able to proceed with an implementation project in which a test bed can be realized.

Expected results and effects

There is a huge opportunity for the development of new technologies, solutions and innovations related to a digitized waste collection, and we are convinced that such a development will benefit greatly from an open test bed linked to a real business. The test bed we intend to develop is in the form of both a physical and virtual environment where testers can effectively perform tests and demonstrations of their solutions in our operations and under real and reality-related conditions.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is led by AÖS in the role of project owner and test bed developer, supported by the University of Skövde, which has expertise in digitalization and digitalized solutions. The practical project work is divided into six activities. For the various activities, working groups are appointed with participants from AÖS and Högskolan i Skövde with appropriate competences for the specific activity. Participants outside the project consortium are also involved in most of the activities to acquire additional skills in specific issues.
