Development of AlN semiconductor material for energy and environment

Reference number
Coordinator Linköpings universitet - Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi
Funding from Vinnova SEK 3 000 000
Project duration December 2011 - June 2016
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The project expanded a strategic collaboration between the VINNMER Fellow, active at IFM, Linköping University, and the Cambridge Centre for Gallium Nitride, University of Cambridge, UK, which has links to other GaN groups throughout the world and interacts with several other universities and industrial companies within the UK. The international qualification of the VINNMER Fellow at the Cambridge Centre consolidated strong and competitive curriculum of independent research leader.

Expected long term effects

The Fellow obtained training from the Cambridge partner in complementary growth techniques which dominate the LEDs research and production, and not available at the Fellow´s unit. The project produced 10+ articles, published in major journals in Materials Science which explicitly acknowledge the support by VINNOVA. The VINNOVA project provided ground for further joint initiatives in the area of advanced materials aiming superior performances for energy and environment, for which there is an interest world-wide and within Swedish industries.

Approach and implementation

Relocation of the Fellow in the Cambridge Centre during periods of each year of the project ensured intense work for operating an active collaboration with joint experiments, which directly involved the Fellow. They constituted new experience and contributed new knowledge for both partners. The Fellow expanded her academia network via integration in a strong research environment with large national and international connections.
