Reference number
Coordinator VIKTORIA SWEDISH ICT AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 281 000
Project duration December 2015 - April 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

EIC2016 aim to build on experiences from EIC2015 and use the innovation platform enabled through this contest and address depot related challenges that bus manufacturers and public transport operators have w hen transforming conventionally fueled products to electrified vehicle products. The main objective of the project is to design and plan EIC2016. The objective has been achieved, with a contest design, consortium, and project plan developed.

Results and expected effects

The consortium has decided to pause the realization of EIC2016 despite the success to develop a proper contest design. The reasons are that 1. Conditions are not in place to fund the contest part of EIC2016 with the proposed plan and budget 2. If the budget is reduced for the contest part, the risk is that EIC2016 not surpass the success of EIC2015. 3. Resources are not available to coordinate the post-contest process; deemed as one key success factor 4. uncertainties regarding the regulations for cash prize payment, which hampers communication towards teams regarding the prize.

Approach and implementation

The project organization has been appreciated by the parties. Used guidelines have facilitated an effective work process and that new partners have been able to contribute directly. A previous lesson learned reinforced is that large problem owners decide their operational budgets well in advance. It is thus difficult to make changes and additions. The work of an innovation contest should therefore follow the normal planning and not be introduced too late to large organizational actors acting acting as problem owners.
