DALI XX - Innovative climatefriendly wooden tower for windturbines - step II

Reference number
Coordinator InnoVentum AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 769 500
Project duration June 2014 - May 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

Decentralised, small-scale energy production for a more sustainable society attains more and more attention. Traditionally, towers for wind power are manufactured in steel, causing major environmental impact by iron ore mining and steel processing. Innoventum AB has therefore developed the concept Dali XX which is a tower of wood intended for small-scale wind turbines of gårdstyp (< 43.5kW). Dali XX tower combines design and function, while the use of renewable materials have been prioritised. The goal of the development grant is to develop the current concept to a real product. By carrying out the project with our development partners LTH and Martinson, we develop an innovative climate friendly glulam tower for wind turbines of gårdstyp. With three prototype installations, we will be able to optimise the Dali XX tower with regards to transportation, installation, durability, environmental benefits, production and aesthetics in order to bring the product onto the Swedish market. With international certification, IP protection, and marketing activities, we will export this product to initially identified markets to generate additional sales impact. The development work carried out jointly with LTH and Martinson AB during an 18 month period is divided into four stages. Stage one focuses on the design adapted to Swedish supply chain and theoretical calculations / analysis including validation with 1:10 model. Stage two expands upon the findings and a first 1:1 prototype is installed. During stage three, modifications from previous stages are incorporated, while a second 1:1 prototype is erected and certified. At the fourth stage, a final prototype is developed and constructed to support the electricity supply in a smart grid area.
