Purpose and goal

Title

Collective Competence and Small-scale Innovation In the Workplace

The purpose of this project is twofold. First, the idea is to generate a `relational´ framework on collective competence, capable of guiding efforts at promoting small-scale innovation at the workplace. Second, our purpose is to demonstrate the significance of focusing on creating a collective competence at the workplace and, based on our interaction with a variety of firms, show how to do it in practice.

Expected results and effects

This study is expected to lead to an improvement in competence handling in the case study firms. A model for discussion and communication about collective competence will be developed for each of the four case study firms. As these firms represent different industries (telecommunications, biotechnology, packaging technology and retailing) our study will also allow a comparative analysis and generation of more general knowledge of how firms may develop collective competence.

Planned approach and implementation

Our methodology relies on interactive collaboration with four firms in a real-time fashion. We will disseminate the results of this project through different seminars with these firms, articles and production of case material to be used in connection with management education programs as well as ordinary university education.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
