Project duration January 2016 - March 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project was to establish a good relationship with Columbia University in order to advance the plans of a two year research visit and prepare for a full VINNMER proposal. Due to successful meetings during the project leader´s visit at Columbia University in January, close relations were formed and the process of establishing the project leader at Columbia Water Center progressed. A full VINNMER proposal was submitted the 14th of March 2016.

Results and expected effects

There is a huge export potential for the Swedish water sector, given the right conditions. By being part of international frontline water research, the project leader will improve SP´s offer to the Swedish water sector and thereby enhance the competence and competitiveness of both SP and Swedish companies on the international market. During the project leader´s visit at Columbia University in January several collaboration projects and research ideas were already identified.

Approach and implementation

The project leader traveled to New York between the 19th and 24th of January 2016 to meet Professor Upmanu Lall and Dr Maura Allaire from Columbia University. Several meetings were held to discuss future collaborative areas and prepare for a full VINNMER proposal. Meetings were also held with the HR department and The International Students and Scholars Office at Columbia University to prepare for the international exchange. The setup of the visit was good and it laid the foundation for a long-term collaboration between SP and Columbia University.
