Reference number
Coordinator Lunds universitet - CIRCLE
Funding from Vinnova SEK 10 500 000
Project duration January 2007 - September 2011
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The research is organized into four main research areas addressing different aspects of and relations between - R&D, knowledge creation, innovation and economic growth (see section 3 for a more detailed description of the research areas): Learning in innovation systems and the consequences of R&D and innovation for economic growth in general and productivity growth in particular International comparisons of regional innovation systems their formation, development and functioning in Sweden, other developed economies as well as in rapidly developing economies The entrepreneurial university and the creation of research-based firms Public policy in the field of innovation, R&D and competence building in a comparative perspective

Expected results and effects

After six years of operation, CIRCLE (incl. SPIRE) will consist of a group of (at least) 30 researchers (full professors, associate professor, assistant professors and Ph.D. students). The combined `annual´ report from 2004 (only July - December) and 2005 listed more than 100 publications. With the increase of the academic staff and the improved and strengthened research milieu organizationally as well as physically this number can be expected to multiply. In addition to what is normally reported in the annual reports, CIRLCE will, starting from the annual report for 2006, introduce citation analyses for all its researchers to provide another useful instrument for evaluating its excellent status.

Planned approach and implementation

See the four main research areas above.
