Purpose and goal

Our project aimed to contribute to Sweden´s ambition of becoming a net zero emitter of carbon dioxide by 2045, by tackling food consumption, currently responsible for 31% of consumption-based carbon emissions at household level. Our application aims to provide real-time information on the climate footprints of food items, including suggestions for alternatives for the food items with high footprint, to allow the consumer to make a conscious decision about their purchase.

Expected results and effects

This project primarily contributes to SDG 12 on Responsible Consumption and Production: -By 2030, achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources, and halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels -Encourage companies, especially large and transnational companies, to adopt sustainable practices and to integrate sustainability information into their reporting cycle -By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature

Planned approach and implementation

Our project consists of 3 partner organisations, brought on board for their specific expertise: - SEI lead the project, and provided the scientific research on the climate footprints - Nagoon will develop the application - Urban deli is the test bed for the application. The first phase consists of a quickscan of relevant applications and legislation. We engaged with consumers to understand their preferences for the application. In the second and third phase, we will roll out the application, as well as engage with policy makers and food producers around trade offs.
