Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of BibCap has been to strengthen the capacity for bibliometric analyses at KTHB, by new methods and types of analyses, that should benefit both Vinnova and KTH. From before, KTHB hosts a local bibliometric database, and the goal of the project has been to develop this further, to be able to handle more specific problems, serving both internal needs and external clients. The project has included analyses of particular subjects, infrastructural improvements and method developments.

Expected results and effects

BibCap has led to several infrastructural improvements and routines in the Bibmet system, which means that the bibliometric unit is now better prepared to conduct a wider range of bibliometric analyses. For instance, the unit now performs a hierarchical clustering of all scientifically published research, and there are also methods for address unification and author disambiguation. A number of analyses and data deliveries of focal areas have also been conducted. The main milestones in the project plan have been completed or passed on to ongoing work at the bibliometric unit.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been conducted as a collaboration between the bibliometric unit at KTHB, KTH and Vinnova, where all partners have participated in the steering group. The bibliometric work has been conducted at KTHB, but specifications of focal areas and problems have come from both Vinnova and KTH. The different elements have been conducted as both longer development projects during the entire project and as shorter deliveries. The bibliometric unit has also communicated with CWTS Leiden to share experiences and to implement their clustering methodology.
