Automated bed transportation

Reference number
Coordinator BLUE OCEAN ROBOTICS SWEDEN AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 491 150
Project duration April 2016 - December 2016
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to investigate, through a pre-study, the possibilities of creating a simple, easy-to-use robot solution at an attractive market price that has the potential to significantly reduce hospital costs for bed transportation. The objective of the project was to provide sufficient basis for a business plan to be used in contact with potential investors and to take the next step in this development process and to conduct a first commercial pilot installation through the technical studies and market research efforts.

Expected results and effects

The work has led to a business plan, which was the final goal of the project and we have also found that it is technically possible to realize the product idea. Our study has also shown that there are no suitable products on the market right now, but our patent investigation also shows that there are more players in the starting holes. High speed is therefore a key in the continued development work. We have a big advantage in already having two identified customers, one of whom is willing to establish a first pilot installation.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been carried out as a pre-study in which the first step was a product definition phase in order to identify the job to be done. This has been followed by an examination of existing solutions and if there are any preventive patents. Then we have worked with two parallel activities, a business development phase where we investigated which market potential the product has and a concept development phase where we investigated whether the product is possible to realize from a technical point of view. The results of these activities have then come together in a business plan
