Important results from the project
Diagnosis, on-board as well as off-board, is an important task in all automotive systems. On-board diagnosis is primarily used for safety monitoring or to detect faults that cause increased emissions. The off-board diagnosis consists of the procedures for repair and maintenance services at the workshop. Currently, this diagnosis is performed by the mechanic with the support of diagnostic trouble codes from the on-board diagnosis. In this project, methods for automatic troubleshooting that minimizes the cost of repair of the vehicle will be developed. This will be done with the help of all information at hand such as diagnostic trouble codes, operating conditions, observations from the mechanic and a model of the vehicle. The developed methods must function on new systems where little or no data from the field exists and be able to handle the fact that many vehicles are different.
Expected long term effects
The developed methods will be demonstrated and evaluated on existing systems. The aim is that parts of the results will be used in future tools for off-board diagnosis.
Approach and implementation
The project is primarily run as a PhD-project with one PhD student employed by Scania.
