Adaptation of the Liwa coating technology for Brazil

Reference number
Coordinator LIWA FÄRG AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 585 748
Project duration November 2012 - October 2013
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The purpose has been to prepare the transfer of Liwa coating technology for the Brazilian market by identifying environmental legislation, determine methods of testing and define the tests to be conducted in the next phase as well as certain support activities together with eg Prebona Protect, Lund University and UFRGS. Liwa has among many producers identified and already initiated cooperation and tests with one reputable family-owned paint company. This has greatly facilitated the achievement of the objectives. Costs, import issues and customer benefits have also been analyzed.

Results and expected effects

Liwa has a potential partner in Brazil who want to commercialize the products. This partner has a profile similar of Liwas. The next step is to confirm, in extensive tests, the initial results obtained. It is agreed that these tests shall be conducted with the participation of UFRGS and LU / LTH e.g. through the ´Science without Borders´ program. Liwa has now begun to build a network in Brazil and understands how environmental legislation, cost structures and import duties are structured. The full effect is achieved when end users can choose a price competitive Liwa product.

Approach and implementation

Liwa has worked through the three Outputs. 1. Contact with UFRGS, ABRAFATI, trade associations etc. has given a clear picture of companies that would fit the defined partner profile. After visiting some of them cooperation has developed with one of the three most appropriate. Import costs etc. have been defined 2. The paint standards have been studied and future tests have been defined. Initial tests have been carried out in Brazil and Sweden. The universities have unfortunately not performed, however, SP / SIK has conducted tests. 3. The priority products have been identified in Brazil.
