A universal calibration solution for Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry

Reference number
Coordinator Polymer Factory Sweden AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 614 328
Project duration January 2018 - August 2019
Status Completed

Important results from the project

The goal of this project was a universal calibration kit for ion-mobility mass spectrometry that will allow end users to obtain accurate data for a wider range of compounds and work to the full operating range of state of the art instruments. This project has facilitated the production of unique compounds that will allow the launch of a superior product. Additionally, PF has developed contacts with leadering instrument manufacturers and academic experts, whose input in design and testing of prototypes will ensure we are able to launch a product that will meet user needs.

Expected long term effects

This project has moved PF into a position to expand the existing SpheriCal® technology to two new classes of instrument, and will open new revenue streams that were not accessible with our current standards. Furthermore, after launch our new products will allow the global scientific community to record data with increased accuracy for a larger number of analytes, allowing greater confidence in the analysis of unknowns across key industries. We hope to complete beta-testing of our prototypes by the end of 2019 and launch two products in 2020 through a worldwide distributor.

Approach and implementation

Polymer Factory has partnered with an industry leading instrument manufacturer and academic experts in order to design the ideal calibration standard for an emerging technology. This partnership allowed our goals of superior performance compared with competing solutions to be realised and gave direct feedback and how to adapt the SpheriCal® technology to a new market.
