Vinnova is looking for impact startups

Vinnova works to accelerate the transition to a sustainable society in Sweden, and in the world. Innovations are now needed for a society where production and consumption are kept within the planet's boundaries, and where the transition takes place in a socially sustainable way with the conditions for good and equal health. That is why Vinnova is now investing in becoming even better at finding the companies that really make a difference and address the major societal challenges we face.

- Through this focused investment in impact companies, we want to encourage more entrepreneurs to invest their time and energy in what really makes a difference in their business concept, says Anna Delin, announcement manager for the investment.

What is an impact company?

An impact company is a company whose entire business concept aims to contribute in a measurable way to solving one or more prioritized problems for people, the environment and society, in line with FNs Hållbarhetsmål. The impact of the impact companies and the basic idea itself is to develop innovations that create positive societal effects, at the same time as they can make money from the innovation.

- We want more startups to have a chance to develop and validate their business ideas by taking an early risk before the companies are investable or mature enough for larger EU grants. We are looking for companies that will ultimately be able to make money from their activities and create a profitable business. It is a prerequisite for being able to scale and have an international impact, and thereby really be able to contribute to sustainable change, Anna continues.
