Purpose and goal

The project´s objective was to explore the possibility and conditions for promoting young entrepreneurship in the suburbs. We have tested a new method to help young entrepreneurs in Southern suburbs of Stockholm, which included providing access to an office space, a scholarship to invest in the business idea, workshops on entrepreneurship, a local mentor and the aid of a team of university students. In this project we tested the method as a pilot with five young entrepreneurs from the South of Stockholm.

Results and expected effects

The entrepreneurs got help writing a business plan, composing a budget, training in sales techniques and insights in relevant topics among others. Through their mentors and meetings with other partners, the entrepreneurs got to expand their contact network. The project also took part with success in the Culture Week in Farsta Centrum. All entrepreneurs reached further in their planning, and the expected outcome is an increased chance for them to succeed in their business and inspire others. Another expected result is a greater awareness about young entrepreneurship.

Approach and implementation

The project was designed as a small-scale incubator for young entrepreneurs from Stockholm. The project was run by two project managers from Impact Hub Stockholm and four university interns who assisted five young people to develop their business ideas. The entrepreneurs received support in the form of advice from the interns as well as from an individual mentor and participated in workshops and guest lectures. This, combined with a stipend of sek 10,000 to invest in their businesses, have led to success in the development of these young entrepreneurs.
