Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The main goal for SP was to study experimental dependability validation of computer systems using fault injection at different abstraction levels by developing a scenario for testing fault handling in an executable implementation model with respect to hardware faults (WP6). The goal was to increase knowledge of how model implemented fault injection can be applied and compared to other types of fault injection techniques.

Results and expected effects

The results have been given in papers presented at DEVVARTS14 and SafeComp15. The work has also been presented and discussed at ´The joint VINNOVA-SSF Conference: Software for Competitiveness II Innovative software in systems 2015´ and IQPC15. SP will exploit the results of the fault injection experiments together with the extensions made to the SP´s model implemented fault injection tool, MODIFI, by offering fault injection services to their customers.

Approach and implementation

SP used MODIFI to evaluate a Simulink model of a brake-by-wire (BBW) use case specified by Volvo. Parts of the BBW application which are sensitive to transient hardware faults were identified and subsequently extended with error handling mechanisms. The effectiveness of these mechanisms was evaluated using MODIFI. SP and Volvo also performed a back-to-back comparison of the results obtained from the model-based fault injection with results obtained from experiments on a physical system.
